Isle Of Skye

A Magical Island, Home to a Most Unique Mountain Range

Skye's magic is in the harmony of sea, sky, and mountain that make up this jewel of the Hebrides. There is, quite simply, nothing else like it. Although the island is around 50 miles long and over 30 from East to West, nowhere is more than 3 miles from the sea due to the indented nature of the coastline. Among the many spectacular uplanSkye from Applecross d areas, the Red and the Black Cuillin reign supreme. Dramatic and ever-changing scenery provides a backdrop to what is certainly the grandest scrambling and climbing in Britain.

Skye is a perfect place for the experienced mountain walker who wants to take things a little further - the terrain can be challenging and most outings into the hills will involve some scrambling. But with intimate local knowledge there's no need to worry that you'll end up out of your depth. Having someone with you who understands the place will also ensure you get the most out of your time there. Remember too that Skye is not just about mountains - There's miles of unspoilt coastline, sea views from almost every point on the island, a wealth of wildlife and a vibrant Hebridean Culture!

Ian has completed the traverse of the Main Cuillin Ridge many times, and can help you achieve a complete traverse, backpack into the heart of the mountains at Loch Coruisk, or stay in a comfortable hotel from which to make forays around this magical island. Being on the Western seaboard the weather and the light changes constantly, and magical images will stay in your mind for a lifetime. One thing's for sure though, you'll want to come back time and again!
