Multi Day Walking

Steall Meadow, Glen Nevis

Getting To Know The Place

Taking a few days to get to grips with a place pays huge dividends. You come away with a real feel for the place. You get a chance to limber up to more challenging adventures. If you're joining into a group you get to know the others and make friends rather than acquaintances

Linear Routes

Above Mamore Lodge We're all familiar with the concept of long distance paths like the Pennine Way and the West Highland Way here in Britain, or the European GR-20 and the Appalachian Trail in the States. Walking an A to B journey is extremely satisfying. Given your own timescale, I can help you come up with your own route specially for you. Transport, accommodation and logistics can be organised for you if you wish.

Another popular choice is, for instance, spending a few days in Glencoe then up to Skye for a few more. Or do the North West Highlands, up to Torridon and on to Ullapool in Wester Ross. Both are great ways to get to know the Highlands in a week from Edinburgh or Glasgow. You could Join an existing group ( see Forthcoming Trips ) or make up your own.

Trekking is extremely popular in the remote ranges of the world, such as the Peruvian Andes of the Himalya of Nepal. But you don't have to go so far afield to enjoy a magical self-contained journey. Scotland abounds in trekking opportunities from the Cairngorms to the Cape Wrath Trail. You could choose either to stay in hostels, B+B accommodation, or camp to get to those really out-of -the-way places.

Give yourself a weather window!

Long distance walking in Northern Spain

So you've got an objective, and you're going on a guided trip, one of the reasons being that it may increase your chances of achieving that objective.

Say for instance you want to do the Traverse of Liathach, a classic mountain in The North West of Scotland . You could do it, provided the weather conditions allowed. If you only had one chance you might do the route but see nothing. With a few days you have options, you can assess your fitness, pick the right day, you might end up doing something that was an even greater challenge than you thought capable of!
