Site Update!
Things are calming down a little after a very busy summer season so I will finally have some time to update the site! If you've been with me over the summer and have any comments or photos for inclusion then I'd love to have them. For photos, either send them to me as an email attachment or send a link. I'll then put them up on the site or put the links up with the details of the trip on the Previous Trips page. (25/11/11)
Management Training in Arrochar
I was happy to be one of a team providing hill skills,
team building, and product awareness for over 100 folk from a national
outdoor retail chain last month when they came to Loch Lomond for a conference
.
The weather was kind, if a little cold, and it was great to be able to
share some time with people who are usually stuck in the shop selling you
the gear but with little opportunity to get out themselves. Here's a photo
of one of my teams heading for The Cobbler.

Private Guiding , Ben Nevis- March 2009
Ben Nevis is never a soft touch and in its' winter coat
presented a formidable challenge a few days ago. High winds, white-out
conditions, iron-hard snow 2 metres deep, we had it all! It's a nice feeling
to put all your skills into use to manage the day safely and our small
group certainly had a memorable, very enjoyable day. Thanks to Carl for
sending in the photos, as I forgot to charge my camera batteries!
Applecross on the box
I'm sure some of you will have been watching the new series on the BBC about a man and dog going "semi self sufficient" in Applecross. This is an area that I can wholeheartedly recommend for a visit, with it's stunning wild coastal scenery, amazing mountains, and easy access to the neighbouring region of Torridon it's fantastic walking country. Not to mention the rather fine pub!. You can read more about this very special corner of the country on the North West Scotland page. We go there on the "Torridon Traverses" trip and private guiding in the area is available, so if you want to go and see for yourself... Get in touch for more details . (02/03/09)
Mountain Skills Training
There has been a lot of interest from folk wanting to brush up or enhance their hill skills. New for this year are a programme of mountain skills courses - a 2 day weekend course, and a four day course which includes a night's wilderness camping. Scheduled courses are based in either Glencoe or Skye and dates are posted on the forthcoming trips page. Courses can also be run on demand for groups of 2 or more. An info sheet is available. Download it here (337kb .doc) . (13/01/09)
Whales seen off Skye
We were down at Neist point, the Westernmost Tip Of Skye, the other day. Along with the usual sightings of seals and gannets and such like, we were treated to a view of a couple of minke whales blowing and cruising up and down just off the point. Earlier in the week the group had encountered a dead whale on the shore near Boreraig so this felt nice and positive! It made a splendid finale to a week's walking in superb weather. (10/06/08)
Private Guiding, Skye Cuillin April 2008
Last weekend a small group enjoyed superb conditions for a couple of days on the Skye Ridge, which was looking particularly alpine with it's coating of spring snow. If you want to see Skye in perfect sunshine then there are lots of photos on the Gallery Page, and more should follow soon. (22/04/08)
Ben Nevis Charity Ascent
Rob
Phillips from Bristol has been in touch to tell me about a charity ascent
of Ben Nevis he is doing this summer to raise money for Altzheimer's research:
"I am climbing Ben Nevis in memory of my Nan who died from the disease years ago when I was really young. She was a wonderful woman and I know she would want me to do this for myself. I am also going up to raise money for the charity that is trying to find a cure for this horrible disease."
If you would like more information, or to sponsor him, then contact him by email , or visit http://www.justgiving.com/robertphillips . Good luck Rob, and send us some pictures! (09/04/08)
Catching a flyer
On a recent ascent of Stob Coire nan Lochan in Glencoe a client and I were treated to an aerobatic display by a paraglider. He told us the wing weighed about 17 kilos. At least he didn't have to carry it back down the mountain! (23/02/08)
Merv - the latest
Those of you who have been on a trip with myself and/or my associate Merv Capewell
will no doubt be interested to know that he's been avoiding the long cold wet
dark Northern winter by hiding in Portugal doing some winter sunshine walking
tours. He'll be back at the beginning of March though - no doubt with some
traveller's tales! And he'll even be up to Scotland in May! Hopefully we'll
be seeing him on more tours now he's back. (22/02/08)
Glencoe Winter Slideshow
I've compiled a Powerpoint slideshow from a recent day out in Glencoe. It comes at about 120MB but i'm happy to put it on a CD for anyone who might like a look. If you're interested get in touch . (06/02/08)
"Une Ballade Eccossaise" Movie
I have received a quality movie from Patrick, a member
of the Taila Root HP France group who came with me for a week in June,
visiting Glencoe and Skye. The movie is awesome and gives a really good
flavour of adventurous walking in these areas. I would put it up on the
site but it's about 10 minutes long and 255MB so too big even for YouTube!
The format is .wmv,
if you'd like a copy
get in touch
.
