Guided adventure - walking, hiking, scrambling, climbing, wilderness camping and mountain activities throughout Scotland and further afield...

North West Scotland

Liathach

From Lochalsh to Cape Wrath

Forget the hectic bustle of Ben Nevis and Fort William, or even Skye! Few people make it this far.... and those that do treasure the open spaces and the tranquility. This is one of Scotland's most scenically diverse regions ....rewarding, refreshing, revitalizing, and with a quality that gets into your soul.

Whether you've got just a couple of days or a couple of weeks, Mountain Freedom really helps you get to know the place - we know it like the back of our hand, so with our help you can get straight down to the things you want to do. We can arrange hillwalking, mountaineering, multi-day treks into remote territory, whatever you fancy.

Wester Ross

Shieldaig For many the essence of Scotland can be found in Wester Ross, particularly in the area surrounding Loch Torridon. (Loch Torridon actually played the title role in the film "Loch Ness"). The mountains here are some of the oldest on the planet, and their sandstone terracing gives them a cathedral-like quality. The ridges of Ben Alligin, Ben Eighe and Liathach give some of the finest scrambling on the British mainland, as well as offering challenging routes for the hill walker. Apart from the famous "big three" there are many other equally stunning mountains set amongst some of the most remote country in Europe.

Liathach More Than Mere Mountains

The scenery at sea level is no less spectacular, and the area is famous for its pristine waters and thereby the quality of its shellfish. The village of Shieldaig is perhaps the quintessential west coast village, just a row of simple white houses by the shore. There are beaches on the Applecross peninsula, at Gairloch, and around Gruinard Bay which, if they were on England's South Coast would be packed. Here you can have them to yourself. Only the calls of the oystercatchers will break the quiet solitude.
