Private Guiding - Ben Nevis - February 2011

A quality day out on Ben Nevis, upon which our group of 4 was joined my my colleague Mark "Dez" Walker. Conditions were not perfect blue sky, but certainly perfect for introducing novice winter hillwalkers to some basic winter skills such as ice axe and crampon work, whilst managing to take in Britain's highest peak in it's most challenging season for good measure!

All I have to say is THANK YOU! Everything about this trip was perfect. Ian is a top notch guide. He planned for us some great mini adventures. Each walk was spectacular (a special spot in my heart for the Quiraing, though), with just the right amount of challenge. He was a delight to listen to and his sense of humor was a perfect companion to his multi-faceted knowledge, his care for each member of the group and his talent for improvisation. The food was great! And the accomodations ranged from great with character, charm and lovely people to totally fine. Even the weather cooperated! I will be back. I want to see this heather in bloom!! Glen Shiel Munro Bagging - June 2011

Pretty reasonable conditions allowed us to notch up a fair tally of Munros in and around Glen Shiel. The first day we dispensed with the monster traverse of the South glen shiel Ridge and it's seven summits, the following 2 days saw us collecting the peaks north of Loch Cluanie.

Eastern Highlands Munro Bagging - July 2011

A couple of days in an area I've not been to for a long time, and really enjoyed revisiting. The first day we dispatched 7 peaks east of the Devil's Elbow in Glen Shee. A good peak tally for a relatively short day. Time was short the following day so we Opted for a quick dash round Mayar and Driesh instead of the planned excursion to Lochnagar. Coire Fee under Mayar never fails to impress!

Senderdismo y montanismo en Escosia - August 2011

A group of Spanish hillwalkers who were travelling with Explora Escosia . During our week together we visited Glencoe, Ben Nevis, the Isle of Skye, Glen affric, the Cairngorms, and stopped for tea at Blair Castle on the way back to Edinburgh. This trip was run in conjunction with Explora Escosia . Un grupo de senderismo español viajando con la agencia Explora Escosia. Pasamos una semana juntos y visitamos a Glencoe, Ben Nevis, La isla de Skye, Glen Affric, la sierra Cairngorm, y el castillo de Blair.

Skye Discovery - August 2011

This trip was so popular it ran twice this month! Typically, August gave us a usual mix of wet at the start of each week and sunny at the end. Despite it being the peak of the season, we never were too crowded out and the groups were great fun. These trips were run in conjunction with Walkabout Scotland

A friend and I just completed the Skye Discovery Tour with our amazing guide, Ian Stephenson. Our group of 12 was made up of English, Canadians, Americans and Russians, with various abilities. A less experienced guide would have struggled to keep us all happy, safe and entertained but Ian pulled it off with style.

Most day's walks consisted of an easy route with a tougher (moderate) option for those who felt capable of it. I took all the moderate options and really enjoyed the rewards of stretching myself just a bit more than I previously thought I was capable. Those who took the easy option with the assistant guide also had exciting stories to tell, so it seems that nobody felt cheated.

Ian very graciously shared his knowledge, his vast experience of the mountains and love of history, geology and a wealth of other subjects, with the entire group. We're looking forward to another trip as soon as possible! (AngloKat, via TripAdvisor).

Loch Lomond and Glencoe - September 2011

A somewhat wet week with Mark and his family from the States. Despite the Aberfoyle car park turning into a marina we had a great week, basing ourselves in Drymen and Glencoe. The rain barely hindered us as we explored the Trossachs, the Arrochar Alps and the Glen Coe hills, finally being rewarded with a cracking day on Bidean nam Bian in Glen Coe.

Skye Munros - October 2011

A day out with the premise of getting up onto the main Cuillin ridge and doing as much as possible in the prevailing conditions. In light of the pretty poor weather this week and the general wet and strong winds on the day, It was decided in consultation with my client Pete that we'd head for Bruach na Frithe.

There are a a variety of routes to this summit and we chose to approach by Coire Bhasteir and descend by the Fionn Coire. Any over-enthusiastic thoughts of scrambling up onto the north ridge of Sgurr a Bhasteir were quickly shelved as the rain and wind picked up making progress decidedly slippery. Conditions on top were not ideal so we didn't linger. A quick trot down the coire, wading a few very swollen burns, and we were soon ensconsed in the relative low humidity and warmth of the bar. A grand day out, if a little watery!

Sometimes you just have to go out and get wet. We did. And it was good.
