Rock Climbing

Climbing on Yorkshire Limestone Vertical Limit!

So maybe you're a hillwalker, maybe done some scrambling, and want to take things a little further. Or maybe you've always looked up at people dangling from the crags and thought "I'd like to have a go at that". Well, there's nothing stopping you.

Rock climbing has a reputation as being a dangerous, or even reckless pursuit. In reality it's one of the outdoor activities where risks can be managed very effectively and the modern day sport can have a greater margin of safety than many other mountain activities.

The safety systems you use, though, rely on YOU to understand them, remember them, and implement them correctly. So as a beginner learning with an instructor who is experienced not only in climbing but also in taking novices climbing and managing their safety is a very sound idea.

Partner Organisations

West Ridge of SgurrNan Gillean Safe rock climbing relies on low instructor:client ratios and often rock climbing adventures are run in conjunction with trusted partner organisations, mountain instructors and guides.

Climbing is sometimes offered as day courses or short courses where small groups get together with a couple of instructors. Check Forthcoming Trips for details of up and coming courses or get in touch for more information.

Rock climbing is always available as a private guiding option, bearing in mind of course that it can be a seasonal activity!

If you already have climbing experience and want to try some classics routes or expand your skills, then that can also be achieved through Private Guiding. Get in touch for details.

Equipment

Cioch Terrace

You don't need to have all fancy equipment to go rock climbing, just non-restrictive outdoor clothing. Your leader will provide all the specialist safety equipment needed, but if you have any of your own personal equipment feel free to bring it along. If you're not already an experienced climber you'll receive full instruction in how to manage the risks.
